The medallion portrays founding fisherman Andrew Skansie working on his 1912 fishing purseiner, the Aeroplane. Skansie stands on the turntable of his boat pulling in the cork line with a pile of nets behind him. His figure is representative of an individual with whom we can identify. He represents the courage and steadfast determination required to survive in the early 1900's in the Pacific Northwest. Depicted in the background are the beautiful waters and trees of Washington’s Puget Sound. This low relief sculpture is cast in concrete and installed at the center of an outdoor pavilion in Gig Harbor’s downtown Skansie Brothers' Park.
